Iwaki, Japan – October 2026 – Tungaloy Corporation (President: Satoshi Kinoshita, Head Office: Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture) has expanded its NS9530 cermet grade inserts with 20 new -TM chipbreaker options. The new inserts come in five insert shapes (CNMG, DNMG, TNMG, VNMG, and WNMG), each in both standard and cost-effective ISO-EcoTurn versions. The -TM chipbreaker offers an excellent alternative to the -TS chipbreaker— Tungaloy’s first choice for applications ranging from semi-finishing to medium cutting—when greater resistance to chipping and breakage is needed. The -TM is also suitable for light interrupted cuts.

Challenges and Trends
In steel turning, the semi-finishing to medium cutting stages are critical phases that require a balance between quality and productivity. Particularly in turning operations for automotive parts and general machinery components such as shafts and gears, frequent chipping and tool breakage can lead to unstable machining and adversely affect the finished surface of the products. Furthermore, even at low to medium cutting speeds, stable surface finish and long tool life are required, which presents a major challenge for users. To address these requirements, tool designs suited for the types of cut, including the intensity of interruptions, as well as the cutting parameters, are essential, and market demand is growing for tools capable of delivering stable machining performance.
Product Overview
The NS9530 cermet grade combines hardness and toughness through Tungaloy’s latest surface treatment technology, delivering outstanding chipping resistance and wear resistance. By minimizing surface irregularities and significantly reducing built-up edge formation, it contributes to improved surface finish. Suitable for a wide range of applications from continuous to interrupted cuts, NS9530 enables excellent surface quality and stable machining performance.

Benefits and Features
■NS9530
Feature 1: Outstanding chipping resistance and wear resistance through a smooth, tough surface layer
