TungMeister – Expansion of small-diameter sizes for VFM heads for face milling

Iwaki, Japan – April, 2026 – Tungaloy Corporation (President: Satoshi Kinoshita, Head Office: Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture) announces the expansion of its TungMeister series, introducing new small-diameter VFM heads for face milling on automatic lathes.

Challenges and Trends

Small-diameter solid end mills with a diameter of ø 12 mm or less are commonly used for face milling of small parts on automatic lathes and similar machines. Face milling with solid end mills uses the bottom cutting edge, which tends to result in low surface finish; additionally, excessive overhang tends to occur, causing chatter and making it difficult to improve machining efficiency. Therefore, there is demand for tools that can achieve both surface quality and machining efficiency when face milling small products or confined areas.

Product Overview

“TungMeister” is an innovative head-exchangeable end mill series; by combining more than 45 different machining heads with various shank types, it can be configured in over 13,000 different ways. This time, the lineup of VFM-type heads for face milling is being expanded, making the series capable of covering an even wider range of end-milling applications.

Benefits and Features

Feature 1: Head-exchangeable end mill that supports a wide range of machining
– With a wide range of head shapes from square and ball heads to T-slot and thread-cutting heads—this series accommodates a diverse array of end milling applications
– Optimal tool selection is possible through combinations with a wide variety of shank options, including different diameters, lengths, and materials
– Tool change time is reduced to about one-tenth that of conventional solid end mills, significantly reducing machine downtime

Addition of a ø10 mm tool diameter to the VFM-type head for face milling
– High-quality machined surfaces are achieved thanks to the rake-angle design
– High-efficiency machining is possible even with a 6-flute design on a 10 mm diameter tool
– The use of the AH715 PVD coating grade, which offers an excellent balance of wear resistance and chip resistance, ensures a stable, long service life across a wide range of workpiece materials.
