Tungaloy Honored with Environmental Grand Prize and Technical Achievement Award by Japan Cutting & Wear-Resistant Tool Association

In October 2025, Tungaloy was recognized by the Japan Cutting & Wear-Resistant Tool Association (JTA), receiving both the Environmental Grand Prize and the Technical Achievement Award.

As Japan’s largest association for machine tools, JTA fosters product development, production engineering, and continuous quality improvement among its member companies. Each year, the organization honors individuals and companies that contribute to Japan’s machine tool industry, technological advancement, and environmental stewardship.

Environmental Grand Prize

Tungaloy received the Environmental Grand Prize for the second consecutive year. Driven by sustained, company-wide initiatives, the company has achieved significant reductions in environmental impact. Notably, the company’s carbon dioxide emissions intensity per unit of production has fallen to less than half of its level four years ago, reflecting continuous progress in energy efficiency, process improvements, and responsible manufacturing.

Satoshi Kinoshita, President and CEO of Tungaloy, said, “We are honored to receive the Environmental Grand Prize again. This recognition reflects the dedication of our teams across every site to reduce our footprint while improving operational efficiency. We will continue investing in energy smart manufacturing and accelerating initiatives that deliver measurable benefits for our customers, communities, and the planet.”

Technical Achievement Award

In addition to the environmental recognition, Tungaloy received the Technical Achievement Award for its BTA tool “BSG,” developed for deep hole drilling of tube sheets used in heat exchangers for thermal and nuclear power plants. By optimizing internal coolant flow, BSG suppresses chip accumulation deep within holes and maintains high chip evacuation even when chip formation is unstable. The product contributes to the enhancement of machining stability, productivity, and quality in the power generation industry.

Kinoshita added, “BSG embodies how we approach innovation, which is solving real challenges on the shop floor with robust, reliable engineering. We will continue to make substantial, ongoing investments in R&D to create such products that deliver meaningful value for our customers.”
