Iwaki, July 2020 — Tungaloy has further expanded its DrillMeister, an exchangeable-head drill line, to include DMF drill heads.
Designed to provide long and predictable tool life, DrillMeister exchangeable-head drills provides a significant reduction in setup times, easing the burden of pressing cost-per-part economy. Due to its capability to swap heads for different workpiece materials and application requirements, DrillMeister allows the drill’s cutting edge to be used in optimal condition at all times. This guarantees longer and more stable tool life when compared with reconditioned solid carbide drills.
In addition, DrillMeister features an innovative drill head to body interlocking that enables easy and secure drill head exchange with the use of a dedicated torque wrench key. Since drill heads can be exchanged without removing the entire drill body from the spindle, setup time is significantly reduced, eliminating presetting, offset, and touch-off of the replaced tool. The special interface of the drill securely locks the head onto the body, which prevents the head from being unintentionally disconnected and falling into the machined hole.
Based on increasing market demands for flat-edged slot drills, Tungaloy has added the DMF-style drill head to the existing line of general-purpose DMP style drill head and DMC head for precision drilling. Available in diameters ranging from 10.0 mm to 19.9 mm, the new DMF drill heads are designed to make it easy and reliable to counterbore and when drilling to and exiting from angled or irregular surfaces. It is inherent tendency of standard flat-edged slot drills to be dragged sideways while drilling the hole, causing chatter and/or creating an irregular/oversized hole. The innovative edge geometry of DMF will eliminate these issues, ensuring smooth entry into the workpiece. DMF is able to provide the identical hole quality as those made by standard 140°-angled drills. The new drill heads are available in the latest grade AH9130 for predictable tool life in a variety of materials.
