DuoForceCut Offers Indexable Solutions for Cam-Driven Lathes

Iwaki, October 2022—Tungaloy has unveiled DuoForceCut flexible indexable turning tool series developed for use on CNC automatic lathes and cam-driven lathes that micromachine miniature parts in diameters as small as a few millimeters.

Traditional cam-driven lathes and CNC automatic lathes play a key role in mass producing sub-ten-millimeter-diameter miniature parts that are used in the watch, dentistry, and mechatronic industries worldwide. The turret of these machines usually accommodates small-sized turning tools with 6×6, 7×7, and 10×10 millimeter (.236x.236, .276x.276, and .394x.394 inch) square shanks; and many customers are still using old school brazed carbide tip turning tools because few tool suppliers offer indexable solutions for this tool size range that possess tool stability and reliability of brazed tools.

DuoForceCut indexable turning tool series boasts exceptional tool reliability and stability. The toolholder incorporates the proven methodology of DuoJustCut’s secure insert clamping. This allows a thin 6×6 millimeter square shank toolholder, which is widely used on cam-driven lathes, to securely retain the insert in place and provide the tool with ultimate reliability.

DuoForceCut incorporates a unique insert coupling design with precision-ground interlocking feature to allow secure and rigid insert retention, as well as high cutting edge repeatability. This tool design permits stable operations even when using a 0.5 millimeter-wide (.020 inch-wide) insert coupled with a 6×6 millimeter (.236x.236 inch) square shank toolholder to cut off four millimeter (.157 inch) diameter bar stocks.

The standard offerings include toolholders available in 6×6 and 7×7 millimeter square shanks, along with 8×8 and 10×10 millimeter square shanks that can also be used in CNC Swiss-type sliding head lathes. The insert widths are available in 0.5, 0.6, 0.8, and 1.0 millimeters (.020, .024, .031, and .039 inches) and capable of cutting off bar stocks as thick as 12 millimeter (.472 inch) diameter.

Versatile SH725 grade provides the inserts with a good balance of wear and fracture resistance, addressing a range of material groups.

Other standard insert style options include front turning (turning towards the main spindle) inserts and blank inserts that can freely be modified to the desired cutting edge profiles. All inserts are interchangeable on the same toolholder.
